University College

Students in Exploratory Studies, Inter-College Transfer, or other University College majors can still study abroad and fulfill intended major requirements and GEPS. Learn more below:

NC State group programs and programs through the NC State European Center in Prague offer NC State course credit and are a great way to fulfill degree requirements or GEPs/free electives. Both semester and short-term programs are available. Students can also pursue semester and summer programs through our partner institutions. You can find programs via recommended based on major, programs that fulfill GEPs, and programs based on other factors.

For students in the Exploratory Studies and Inter-College Transfer programs, we recommend discussing any study abroad plans with your current academic advisor to ensure you will continue to progress in your academic career regardless of your intended major.

Earning Transfer Credit Abroad

For semester programs or summer programs where students will earn transfer credit, students will need to work with their intended major department to ensure that courses taken abroad can fulfill degree requirements. As part of the Course Approval Form:

  • Any courses that would fulfill requirements for your intended major will need to be approved by the Departmental Coordinator of Advising of your intended major*
  • University College will need to approve any courses taken for transfer credit through a study abroad program, including courses that would count towards your intended major requirements, GEPs, or free electives.

*Some academic departments might not sign Course Approval Forms for students who have not yet completed the CODA process. If you run into this, please reach out to your study abroad advisor for support.
