Pre-Departure Orientation

Spring 2027 Students

All accepted Spring 2027 semester students are required to attend the Pre-Departure Orientation, which will be made up of several events in late October. Please note all dates carefully:

  • Health and Safety Orientation
    • Required for all students; students will be assigned this orientation session through Reporter and must complete it by December 1.
  • Online Sessions
    • International Travel 101: October 27 at 4:00pm via Zoom Webinar
      • Recommended for newer travelers. Get travel tips on passports, packing, navigating airports, and more.
    • Saving Money While Abroad: October 28 at 4:00pm via Zoom Webinar
      • Tips on exchange rates, creating a budget, and saving money during your study abroad program.
    • Introduction to Cultural Competence: October 29 at 4:00pm via Zoom Webinar
      • Recommended for more experienced travelers. Get an introduction on tools and skills for engaging and navigating with a new culture while studying abroad.
  • Required in-person sessions based on host country
    • Spain, Asia, Oceania (Australia and New Zealand): October 26 at 5:15-6:30pm in Kamphoefner Hall G20
    • Italy, France, the Nordics, and Greece: October 27 at 5:15-6:30pm in Kamphoefner Hall G20
    • Africa, Latin and South America, Middle Each, UK, Ireland, and Central Europe (Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland): October 28 at 5:15-6:30pm in Caldwell OG107
    • NC State European Center in Prague: October 29 at 5:00pm in Caldwell OG107

At the regional sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to meet and connect with other students traveling to their region, and talk through next steps with their study abroad advisor.

Should I live with a host family while studying in Ecuador next semester? How can I increase my cultural competence? Who else is studying abroad in Prague with me? All these questions – and many more – are addressed during Pre-Departure Orientation.
