Why did you choose to study abroad?
Studying abroad was something I had always wanted to do. I had the opportunity to do so during undergrad, but couldn’t due to personal reasons. I took the second chance at this opportunity and found a program that fits my interest in Asian history and culture.
What did you learn about yourself?
I learned how to adapt to new surroundings, become independent, work in teams with people you just met, be resilient, understanding and respectful of local customs and culture, and learned I have a desire to see the world and make the world a better place.
What was one of your favorite parts of your program?
One of my favorite parts was walking the famous Great Wall of China. It was an amazing experience to see its authentic and historic nature and take pictures for memories and experiences.
What advice do you have to future study abroad students?
The best advice I would give to future study abroad students to make sure you are prepared fully to immense yourself into a new country or culture. Research where you will be, including where you live, how to access funds, how to be connected back home, who to contact under certain circumstances, pack light/heavy, and figure out what you want to do or how to blend in with the locals and culture without trouble.
How did your study abroad experience prepare you for your future career?
Studying abroad help me understand how to meet the needs of others, how to adapt and be flexible, make quick decisions, work in teams, and become a leader inside and outside the classroom.
Would you do it again?
I would definitely do it again! Best experience of my life so far!
