Why did you choose to study abroad?
To see more of the world and have more experiences.
What did you learn about yourself?
I am able to solve many problems that I did not know I could solve
What was one of your favorite parts of your program?
Meeting new people and listening to their stories are the best part of studying abroad.
What advice do you have for future study abroad students?
Just do it. You are going to learn and be challenged in so many different ways and it is not scary. You learn how to communicate with so many different people from different backgrounds.
How did your study abroad experience prepare you for your future career?
It has allowed me to understand that I can communicate with others and to not be intimidated when new experiences come my way.
Were you surprised by anything during your time abroad?
I was surprised by all the different backgrounds people have. And a lot of people in the world know how to speak English.
How were your classes abroad different than if you would have taken them at NC State? Did you take any field trips or do anything outside of the traditional classroom?
The class sizes at SMU are a lot smaller than at NC State and they give incentives to people to speak up in class in order to receive participation points. This allows students to actively engage in the class and share their ideas.
In what ways did your identity have an impact on your experience abroad?
No, I am Asian and I went to many Asian countries.
Is there any advice you would give to other students who share your identity?
As long as you are friendly, patient, and smile at people, they will be your friend.
Would you do it again?
Yes!
