Regular NC State campus updates about COVID-19 are being posted at go.ncsu.edu/coronavirus. Students are advised to stay informed and expected to follow all university protocols and guidelines.

In alignment with the Restricted Travel Policy, a petition is required for a student to study or travel to any location where travel is considered restricted, including any location for which:

• the U.S. Department of State has issued a Level 3 or 4 Advisory, or
• the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a Warning Level 3, or
• NC State has restricted travel.

As of August 2022, a petition is no longer required for NC State student travel to locations where the advisory or warning level is limited to COVID-19 concerns. If new circumstances warrant, a petition could be required again in the future to restricted travel areas due to COVID-19.

NC State Students should visit the CDC Travel Health Notice for details and the most recent updates. The CDC recommends that individuals do not travel internationally until fully vaccinated and boosted. Visiting locations where there are fewer cases of COVID-19 may be less risky for getting COVID-19 than visiting locations where there are more cases of COVID-19, though transmission rates can change at any point in time. Travelers should learn which activities are higher risk to protect themselves and others. Monitoring COVID-19

NC State Study Abroad regularly monitors the U.S. Department of State (DOS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) international travel advisories, the World Health Organization (WHO),  and reports from the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC). Study Abroad also consults with embassies, consulates, and our overseas partner institutions. 

NC State continues to work closely with the Wake County Health Department and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to monitor the situation in the campus area and support the health and safety of the university and broader community. 

NC State Study Abroad takes the health and safety of every student participating on a study abroad program very seriously and therefore may require a petition for students to participate or could cancel a program in order to help ensure students’ safety.
