Non-NC State Semester/Academic Year Programs: Insurance Coverage Policy

  • NC State students participating in Non-NC State Semester/Academic Year Study Abroad are required to purchase health insurance coverage through the Study Abroad Office. This will be effective starting Fall 2016.
  • Coverage dates will be based upon the dates provided by the individual in the “NC State student on Non-NC State programs” questionnaire.

  • The Study Abroad Office offers insurance coverage for dependents or coverage extension for up to 30 days beyond the dates of the program. For dependent or extension coverage please see Additional Insurance Coverage Policy.

The Study Abroad Office recommends that all students enroll in international health insurance while abroad AND remain enrolled in a domestic insurance policy that will cover the student in the U.S., in case of an emergency while studying abroad that requires the  to return home for medical treatment.

Students in these programs will need to contact Melissa Dutton ( in Student Health to request enrollment in the Student Blue insurance for the semester or year abroad. The cost per semester is $688. An additional Student Health Center fee of $138.51 can be added for use of the Health Center before and after the program. Students will not be automatically charged or enrolled.
