Botswana: Communication and Public Health
Botswana is a success story of economic and political stability where many African countries have failed. However, HIV/AIDS prevalence presents it with a public health challenge. This program surveys the political and economic history of the country, the culture of the people, public health issues, as well as the socio-cultural and environmental issues of the San population.
Cuba: History, Environment and Culture
Be a part of the historic changes in Cuban-US relations in this one-of-a-kind NC State summer program in Havana, Cuba, a UNESCO World Heritage Site! Participants will be immersed in the environmental and socio-cultural history of Cuba and experience first-hand the exceptional biodiversity, culture, and hospitality of the island.
Cyprus: Archaeology Field School
The Republic of Cyprus is a popular tourist destination that offers dramatic landscapes, pristine beaches, a vibrant cultural scene, and world-famous archaeological sites. Students will receive daily, hands-on instruction in archaeological field methods and will explore the archaeology of Cyprus through field trips, reading/writing assignments, and a series of evening lectures.
France: French Language and Culture in Lille & Paris
This program is designed for students to study French language, culture, art, cinema, politics, or international business while immersing themselves in the French experience. The program begins with a four-day study trip in Paris, followed by four weeks in Lille, the cultural, economic, and historic center of northeastern France.
Ghana: Globalization, Development and Culture Change
Although small in area, Ghana is a West African country that has historically and culturally intersected with many parts of the African continent and the world. This program allows students to experience this rich heritage through interactions with Ghanaian people and learn about the challenges of development with a focus on Ghanaian women while participating in a development project.
Italy: History and Italian Studies in Florence
The Florence Program is sponsored by the University Scholars Program and is carried out in cooperation with the Lorenzo de’ Medici institute. Florence is nestled in the fabled landscape of Tuscany, where art, architecture, food and history blend easily together in a romantic and sun-drenched city. Field trips to Venice, Sorrento, Siena, Lucca, and Pisa are included.
Jordan: Qasid Arabic Institute
This intensive Arabic language program in Amman, Jordan provides students with the opportunity to live and study in a region that is critical to the world stage. By participating in this program, students will significantly enhance both their Arabic language proficiency and their understanding of the human condition in the Arab World. Excursions include visits to prominent cultural and historical sites in Jordan and the surrounding area, including the ancient city of Petra, Ajloun Castle, and Wadi Rum.
Peru: Language and Peruvian Culture
Students will enjoy 6 weeks in Peru in this program, including classes in the coastal city of Lima and an excursion to Cuzco and Machu Picchu. Participants will also complete a community service projects in an elementary school near Cuzco, and will be immersed through homestays with Peruvian families.
Spain: Language and Culture in Valencia
Study Spanish language and culture in the heart of Valencia, Spain's third largest city! Valencia is ideally located along the Mediterranean Sea, with beautiful beaches, world-class sailing, and wonderful paella restaurants. On this program, students will stay with host families in Valencia, which will allow students to be fully immersed in the culture and society.
Thailand: Archaeological Field School
Students in this program will learn about the prehistory of Thailand while excavating and analyzing archaeological skeletal materials from the Iron Age site of Promtin Tai. Students will also have the opportunity to visit Buddhist temples in Bangkok, explore ancient temples in Lopburi, and visit the world-famous Angkor Wat complex in Cambodia.
United Kingdom: British History and Shakespeare in Oxford
This University Scholars program is NC State's oldest summer study abroad program and one of its best. The Oxford Study Abroad program encapsulates everything you could expect from a month at one of the most prestigious niversities in the world - courses with amazing Oxford Dons, history around every corner, and a diverse crowd of great minds to mingle with daily.
United Kingdom: STEM and Liberal Studies in London
Make London your classroom during summer session II, earning six NC State credits while spending five weeks immersed in the life and culture of London. With museums, performances, and historical artifacts around every corner, the London program integrates them into your NC State courses.
