Faculty/Staff Insurance

The Study Abroad Office requires all faculty or staff assisting with NC State study abroad programs to be enrolled in the GeoBlue insurance policy for the duration of the time abroad, affiliated with the program.

NC STATE GROUP PROGRAMS

Insurance coverage for program staff and participants is required and included in the NC State Group program budget for all programs except limited service group programs.
All NC State-affiliated program personnel are required to complete an NC State Group: Faculty/Staff Support application for risk management purposes. The application allows the Study Abroad Office to collect emergency contact information, travel arrangements, complete insurance enrollment and to connect through AlertTraveler. This is not required for program directors as this also occurs through the program proposal or renewal applications.
The Study Abroad Office will complete insurance enrollments and provide the program director with hard copies of the insurance cards prior to departure. All individuals will also receive an email from GeoBlue regarding their enrollment.
Insurance claims should be filed by contacting GeoBlue with the member ID information provided by GeoBlue upon enrollment. The Study Abroad Office is unable to facilitate a claim, though you are welcome to contact us with questions or assistance in the process.
Faculty and staff should contact their program coordinator to arrange coverage for dependents.

  • Limited service program budgets are administered by the relevant department, not the Study Abroad Office; all faculty, staff, and students affiliated with an NC State study abroad program must be insured through the University international policy.
  • Insurance costs should be built into the program cost. The Study Abroad Office will bill the administering department for the cost of insurance (Rates available in the International Health Insurance Policy).

The Study Abroad Office only makes insurance arrangements for faculty and staff on study abroad affiliated travel. However, University staff traveling internationally on University-related travel may be eligible to receive business travelers insurance. When approved and purchased by your department on your behalf, this insurance program covers university employees when representing NC State on business travel outside one’s home country. This coverage includes accident and sickness benefits. This program also includes coverage for medevac and repatriation services. The insurer is recognized on an international basis.
