Study abroad expands an NC State education beyond Raleigh and out into the world. Many students face significant financial challenges in the pursuit of their education abroad despite careful planning. Assistance from the members of our wolfpack family has allowed hundreds of students to study abroad in recent years but student needs continue to outpace our available scholarship funding. Will you join our donors in helping an NC State student participate in one of the defining opportunities of a lifetime?

GIVE TO STUDY ABROAD

The Need

Student participation in study abroad has risen dramatically in recent years due to internationalization efforts on campus and program offerings that benefit students from all majors and colleges. At the same time, the need for scholarships has increased even faster. Annual scholarship applications have more than doubled in just three years, from 443 in 2014-15 to 957 in the 2017-18 academic year. While approximately 25% of study abroad participants currently receive a scholarship through our office, hundreds of students apply each year and cannot obtain funding. Others do not even apply due to concerns over finances.

Our Scholarship Process

The Study Abroad Office has created a streamlined process that allows students to easily apply for over 20 scholarships with one application. We work with campus partners and donors to select recipients based on upon predetermined award criteria. This process is designed to let students receive their scholarships as early as possible to aid in their financial planning and to reduce their up front costs.

Becoming a Study Abroad Donor

Many donors give to our general scholarship fund as part of the community effort to support our students. This is the quickest and easiest way to make study abroad become a reality for a deserving student.

Additionally, a select few donors have created their own study abroad scholarships. Our scholarship process is extremely flexible and allows awards to be based on need or merit. Additional criteria such as college, major, first generation students, in-state students, minority students and more can be used to craft a scholarship that aligns perfectly with the wishes of a donor. If you would be interested in helping one or more students to go abroad, please contact Seth Parrish for more information.
