Growing up, Maura lived in Japan for 3 years while her father was in the military. Her experience abroad inspired her to pursue a degree in Global Studies at UNC Chapel Hill. Shortly after finishing her undergraduate degree, Maura moved back to Japan to teach English in a rural area for 2 years. Living in Japan gave her the opportunity to travel to countries like South Korea, Singapore, New Zealand, and Australia. She realized how valuable spending time in different cultures could be, and knew she wanted to work to help others do the same. Upon returning to America, Maura returned to Carolina for her Masters in International Education. While working on her masters, Maura interned at the UNC Study Abroad Office. Before coming to State, she worked as a course coordinator for students at the School of Medicine. Maura spends most of her free time at the gym, as she is a competitive powerlifter. When she isn’t training or in the office, she can likely be found trying out local restaurants, hiking on trails, or hanging out wherever there are dogs to be pet.
