Bio

As Director, Julia leads the team in the development and administration of study abroad programs, student advising and support, and all related services. She oversees study abroad risk management and student health and safety together with strong campus and international partners.

Julia’s interest in intercultural communication and geography was sparked at a young age while living in an international student community while her dad was in graduate school. She had her first chance to travel internationally through study abroad experiences as an undergrad at West Virginia Wesleyan College, where she studied in Vienna, Austria, and Granada, Spain. Because of the challenging and meaningful opportunity studying abroad presented, Julia focused on a career in studying abroad as soon as she graduated with her bachelor’s degree. She worked at West Virginia University while completing her master’s in Educational Leadership and Higher Education Administration, at Bucknell University and at Penn State University.

The best part about working in study abroad is seeing the confidence and independence students gain following their experiences and the impact a faculty-led program can have both on the students and the faculty/staff involved. When outside of the office, Julia loves being with her family and exploring this big, wide world.
