Program and Location:
International Finance in London; London, UK
Why did you choose to study abroad?
I was very interested in the course being taught and wanted to open my horizons and travel to somewhere I had never been to. I wanted to experience a different culture, way of life and see all that London had to offer.
What did you learn about yourself?
I learned that I was capable of getting out of my comfort zone and trying new things. I originally did not know anyone going on the trip, and I was a bit nervous about that, but I quickly connected with my classmates and that worry dissipated quickly. I liked trying new foods, being open to every experience and learning as much about the city as possible.
What was one of your favorite parts of your program?
The city itself was absolutely incredible. London is full of history and it is so unique. I was also there during the Royal Wedding to it was amazing so see a country come together and celebrate each other, the royal family and their country. It is an experience that I will forever cherish.
What advice do you have to future study abroad students?
Remain calm. A lot of unexpected things arise when you are studying abroad. I was lost countless times, but as a group we always remained calm and tried to figure out the best route. Not every day is going to be perfect, there are little hiccups along the way but those hiccups create the most memorable experiences, so do not let them get in your way.
How did your study abroad experience prepare you for your future career?
My study abroad experience gave me the global perspective I needed to obtain in order to thrive in my future career. I would like to work analyzing the global economy, investments and the investing behaviors of people across the globe. This experience, not only clarified what I wanted to do after college but also gave me the confidence I needed to know that I would be able to do it. The International Finance class was absolutely incredible. Also being in London, the finance capital in Europe during the daunting time of Brexit was quite interesting. The trip allowed me to obtain an understanding to British people, their values and way of life, all of which is important to my future career.
Would you do it again?
