Global Plant Health Internship in Costa Rica May 18- June 29th, 2013
6 week research internships in Global Plant Health are available for up to 6 advanced undergraduate students.
Learn the global issues facing agriculture in the developing world while working on research on banana, cacao, potato, tuber crops, vegetables and tropical fruit plantations during the summer.
Learn about global plant health, climate change, food security, emerging plant diseases and trade issues in the tropics.
Develop an appreciation for the language, culture and people of Costa Rica and the foods they consume and export.

Course PP 495/PP 590 - Global Plant Health Internship (3 credits)
Requirements This internship is designed for upper level undergraduate science majors and graduate students.
Program Costs All housing and food expenses for internship participants will be covered while in Costa Rica.
Financial aid is available to help qualified NC
State students meet the expenses of NC State study abroad programs. Students
from other institutions should contact their home institution study abroad and
financial aid offices for information. For additional funding, NC State
students should consider applying for a study abroad scholarship from the Study Abroad
Office.
Research Partners Students will conduct research for six weeks on projects co-developed with faculty from:
Global Plant Health Program, Dept of Plant Pathology and Dept. of Plant Biology, NC State University
The Centro de Investigaciones Agronomica (CIA) at the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR) San Jose,
Dole Foods, Rio Frio, Costa Rica,
CATIE (Centro Agronomico Tropical de InvestigacĂones y Esenanza, Tropical Agriculture Research and Higher Education Center) in Turrialba, Costa Rica).
Application Procedures
Complete the
NCSU Study Abroad Office (SAO) online application by the February 8th, 2013 deadline.
Submit directly to Bridget Lassiter (bridget_lassiter@ncsu.edu) a one-page resume and a statement of 1-2 page statement describing why you are a good candidate for the Global Plant Health internship, no later than January 31st, 2013
The NC State Study Abroad Office will register all accepted students for the internship course. Students should NOT register for an on-campus course.
