HullThe Location

The University of Hull is located in northeast England, about 3 hours by train from London. Students participating in this exchange may choose to study at either the main Hull campus or the Scarborough campus.

The city of Kingston Upon Hull, often known simply as Hull, serves as a sea port linking Britain to continental Europe. Hull is not only an active center for traditional port industry but also for modern commerce. Hull is also Raleigh's sister city! There are many waterfront shopping areas, parks, leisure facilities and a marina. The city center's cobblestone streets, only 15 minutes from campus, are lined with museums, pubs, and shops.

Scarborough is one of the most beautiful seaside resorts in the UK; the ruins of its medieval castle dominate the rocky cliffs between the town's two sweeping bays lined with sandy beaches. In the late spring and early fall, Scarborough bustles with all the activity of a major resort, while in the winter the pedestrian downtown continues to offer many discos, shops, pubs, art galleries, and theaters to year-round residents.

The University

The University of Hull main campus has an enrollment of 13,500 students. The main campus is located on the northern edge of the city, only a 15 minute bus ride from the city center. Students can enroll in coursework in most humanities, sciences, and social science areas.

The Scarborough campus has about 1500 students, offering a personalized, intimate college environment. The campus is a five-minute walk from the south bay beach promenade. Areas of study available to exchange students include business management, tourism management, coastal and environmental sciences, music and music technology, dance, literature, sociology, gender studies, computer science, studio art, religious studies, and theatre studies.

Accommodations

Accommodations on the Hull campus include small student houses where students can cook their own meals as well as large residence halls which provide all meals in dining halls. NC State students also have the option to live in private or University-owned student accommodations off-campus. Spring-semester only students are generally placed in shared rooms in student houses while full year students may apply to live in residence halls, student houses, or off-campus.

Accommodations on the Scarborough campus include Cayley Hall, an on-campus residence with single rooms (each with private bathroom), shared kitchen facilities, and a meal plan. Students who prefer to live off-campus can choose from the abundant apartment options available in Scarborough during the off-season; the university provides access to listings and advice on rental agreements etc. to students who prefer to live off-campus.
