International Students accepted to
come to NCSU on exchange must be able show proof of their ability to
pay for living expenses while in the US. Students must submit a
Certificate of Financial Responsibility (CFR), and in some cases
supporting documents during the application process. For the 2009-10
academic year, students must show funding of US$7,288 if studying for
one semester, and US$14,575 if studying for one year.
Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) Fee:
Students must also
complete a SEVIS registration form during the application process and
pay a $180 SEVIS fee during the visa process. (Effective September 1,
2004, the US Department of Homeland Security imposed a SEVIS fee on all
new applications for F-1, J-1 and other visas. The SEVIS fee is
mandated by Congress to be used for the operational costs of the SEVIS
program. SEVIS is a computer system which manages data on all persons
on F, J, and M visa status in the US.)
Housing:
NCSU reserves a set number of rooms in Alexander Global Village & Wolf Village
for incoming Study Abroad student accommodations. These rooms will be
assigned to incoming students based upon the time and date the housing
application is submitted. Please note: if the demand
for Alexander Global Village and Wolf Village exceeds the capacity
reserved for incoming students, we will work to place incoming Study
Abroad students in suitable on-campus accommodation alternatives.
Cost to live on-campus:
Housing in Alexander Global Village
The
2009-10 cost is approximately $2,245 per semester (per person based on
double occupancy). This includes electricity, water, and heat. The
housing contract for Alexander Global Village runs for the full period
of the exchange. Students who move out before the end of
their exchange period will not receive a housing refund. Additionally, Alexander Global Village is closed between semesters and during Spring Break and Thanksgiving break; therefore, all Alexander residents are responsible for finding their own accommodation during that time.
Housing in Wolf Village
The 2009-10 cost is approximately $2,555 per semester (per person). This includes electricity, water, and heat. The housing
contract for Wolf Village runs for the full period of the
exchange. Students who move out before the end of their
exchange period will not receive a housing refund.
Students may choose to purchase a meal plan through University Dining, or prepare their own meals. Dining Halls are located throughout campus, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. All meal expenses can be paid upon arrival to campus.
All international students attending North Carolina State University, including exchange students, will be required
to maintain a health insurance policy that meets very specific US
government guidelines. The North Carolina State University
Student Health Insurance plan meets these requirements and will be
available to purchase during orientation. The cost of the insurance plan is approximately US$1,600 for the academic year and US$800 for a single semester. You must purchase this plan upon arrival.
Additional expenses include course books, personal expenses and travel expenses.
This information and more can be found in the Pre-Arrival Handbook, which will be mailed to you upon acceptance..
