Emergency Assistance

The Study Abroad Office is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to assist students, faculty, and staff while on study abroad programs. NC State Study Abroad will consult with members of the Study Abroad Emergency Response Team, as needed, and connect the individual to appropriate resources.

All program staff and students are expected to check in with NC State if there is a major emergency situation (terrorist activity, acute political unrest, natural disaster) in the location in which they are studying or traveling

    • Collect calls are accepted by the Study Abroad and University Police.

  • Incident reports should be submitted for all incidents, including non-emergencies (e.g., medical, non-medical, behavioral, crime)

Keep all receipts and utilize GeoBlue International Health Insurance for medical support, including Global TeleMD

    • Emergency counseling service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline – 800-273-TALK (8255) or 988 from anywhere in the U.S.
    • Connects you with a crisis center in the Lifeline network closest to your location. Your call will be answered by a trained crisis worker who will listen empathetically and without judgment. Your call is confidential and free.
  • Crisis Text Line  – Text HOME to 741741 or access via WhatsApp
    • offers support via text
    • provides a short quiz that can tell you if immediate text support is the best course for you; takes less than five minutes to connect you with a Crisis Counselor
    • provides relaxation and alternative coping strategies, referrals for further assistance, if needed
  • If a student is displaying concerning behavior, program directors should submit an incident report, so that the Study Abroad Office can help to provide support.

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act requires US colleges and universities who participate in Title IV federal student financial aid programs to disclose information about crime on and around their campuses, or in off-campus facilities. Study Abroad programs are subject to the Clery Act; therefore, the Study Abroad Office must submit information about crimes to the NC State University Police.

  • The Campus Security Authority incident report and study abroad incident reports should both be submitted as soon as possible after becoming aware of a crime or any other incident.
